Joshua Jurs is the Global Industrial Oil Technical Manager for Vanderbilt Chemicals for over five years. He has more than 25 years of experience in a variety of industries such as specialty chemical, oilfield additives, surfactants, polymers and ceramics. Josh’s application experience is in the formulation of polymers and surfactants for a variety of applications such as lubricants, agri chemistry, cleaning, personal care, asphalt, mining, oilfield drilling and enhanced oil and gas recovery. In his current role, Josh reports to the Vice President of the petroleum group at Vanderbilt and is responsible for growing their industrial oil market segment. This involves developing new additive technologies and working with customers to address the demands of the industrial oil markets. He supports the sales and business team by working with their synthesis and application’s laboratories to add value to the industrial oil segment. He has worked as a Senior Research Chemist for several chemical and oilfield companies over the years, i.e. Halliburton, Baker Petrolite, Oxane and AkzoNobel. His background as a synthesis chemist includes work in the areas of flame retardants, nanotechnology, amine chemistry, polymer functionalization, ceramics, high pressure hydrogenations, alkoxylations and quaternary ammonium synthesis. Josh has a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Rice University (Houston, TX) and currently lives in New Fairfield, CT. His many hobbies include cycling, motorcycles, home improvement, fishing, golf and music.
